The first time you get a wax done it hurts for like a second or two after the strip is pulled off. A good therapist will make sure of this. But the pain is really only for a second or two, and I'd rate it as 4 or 5 (and I have a low pain threshold). With time, the pain definatly diminishes. And to give an example of how much, I didn't have the time to get to the salon for a bikini wax recently so I tried a bit of DIY and managed to do it really well myself (and imagine trying to get the guts to rip the strip off from that sensitive an area).
I've paid in the range of £8 - £20 for a bikini wax. Although I think you get what you pay for so the £8 didn't last for that long, but the one that was £20 I didn't get any ingrown hairs, she gave me lots of advice on looking after the waxed area and invited me to come back if there was a problem.

I live in LA and it cost $95 for underarms and brazilian - first time for both and supposedly the cost goes down after the intial wax. I did it 9 days ago for the first time and would say it's worth it - although I will be finding a less expensive salon next time. The one thing I didn't know is that it's a process, it's not just a one time thing, apparently it takes a couple times to get into it since hair has different growth patterns. Right now, my underarms are beginning to grow back but it's fine and hard to see. The bikini area is growing back more slowly but I can see the rest of the hair that is coming in that didn't make the first waxing. I was told to be patient so I'm going to give it a shot - if I don't like it in a couple of months, I'll go back to shaving. On the pain threshold, I had to hold my breath while it was being done, but really, the anxiety of it was worse than anything. Nothing close to bringing me to tears... not worse than the dentist, not worse than a piercing or a tattoo. It's fine, it's so quick that you're momentarily uncomfortable. My advice is to try it - if you don't like it, don't do it again, but if you don't try, you'll never know. Next up.. laser hair removal...

I think in the long run it is worth it because apparently the hair starts growing back finer each time you wax. You could probably to your full body/bikini for under $100. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a big fat 20!! I swear it hurt more than delivering my son. I think the reason why is that for one I am just really sensitive that way and always have been and 2, because it is quick pain and its hard to tell when its coming! Good luck

Yes, Bikini ranges from about $25 to $100 depending on where you live and how much hair you have taken off. Most places charge by the area so full body would likely be $250 plus. But for smoothness there is no comparison. Pain wise it is about a 6 the first time and about a 3 thereafter.

How much it costs depend on the salon and the country, the pain is about 4 out of 10, easily bearable.
