Destruction of natural habitat of Caribou and other wildlife. Many Gwich'in people (one of the native people of Alaska) are dependent on the Porcupine Caribou Herd which calves on the coastal plain in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Gwich'in people have been very active in protesting and lobbying against the possibility of oil drilling in the ANWR.

There are none. The caribou don't live on the tundra where the drilling is proposed. The indigenous people there want the drilling - they are tired of distant liberals telling them how to use their own land. And there is enough oil there to help reduce, to some extent, our depence on foreign oil.
All this blahblahblah about pristine land etc is meaningless.

The possible environmental tragedy and if use our oil first before the Middle East runs out of oil, we'd be more dependent on them IF we don't create an alternative fuel or an alternate means of powering our vehicles/economy. It'd be great for the US to have the Middle East run out of oil first. We wouldn't have to spend so much money on the military to protect our oil interests in the Middle East if they didn't have any more oil. We'd just have to keep those angry, no oil having, islamic fundamentalist in their big sand box and out of our country.

its a scam.
Let me explain how the scam works.
There is not enough oil in ANWR to solve the engery problem, not even for very long.
That is not the point................
Oil companies can pump oil for free off of federal land once the price of oil hit a certain fixed amount...
Free oil? Yes, that is why they want it soo bad...
it is all a scam.

What really are the advantages and who makes the money.
That should give you a clue as to why we should not drill.
And we all know drilling has caused and continues to cause destruction to the environment.
