In September 1, 1939 Nazi Germany invaded Poland (see Polish September Campaign). The invasion led the United Kingdom and France to declare war on Germany, accordingly to the agreement that they had with Poland. Following the United Kingdom Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa also declared war on Germany. After the end of the campaign in Poland the war entered a period of relative inactivity known as the Phony War. This ended when Germany invaded Denmark and Norway in April of 1940 (see Operation Weserübung) and the Netherlands, Belgium and France in May (see Battle of France). All of the invaded countries swiftly capitulated and the forces of the United Kingdom and its allies suffered a humiliating defeat in Norway (see British campaign in Norway) and a near-disastrous retreat from France (see Battle of Dunkirk). The United Kingdom was threatened with an amphibious invasion (see Operation Sealion) but during the Battle of Britain the Luftwaffe failed to achieve air superiority and the invasion was postponed indefinitely.

Well, well let's start from the beginning.. It started from Germany's Unifaction sort of.. The Franco-Prussian War(1870).....France was defeated and Germany won the battle.Germany was united(like we know it nowadays because in the past it was made from 39 different states) and the Impire of Germany was proclaimed in Versailles (In France). The treaty of Frankfurt(May 1871) was very harsh to the French. They had to pay 2 million sterlins and Germany occupied France until they paid that amount.Besides of that,ALSACE AND LORRAINE(these are very rich french fields with coal and iron) where handed to Germany. After the First World war there was the treaty of Versailles. The treaty of Versailles, besides stripping Germany of much of it's territory, ordered the complete disarmament of it's armed forces, except for a token army of 100,000.It even had to pay an overwheeling war reparation sum of SIX BILLION AND SIX HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS. Most Germany's war reparations were to be directed to France, which still was after revenge for the defeat it had suffered in 1871 after the Franco-Prussian War.This state of affairs kindled more hatred in the Germans towards the French and consequently, the latter, wary of German aggression. In the end France was invaded by Germany under Hitler.(The second world war had been already begun).
