Yes people tried to ban it... and some protests even got it removed from some theatres.

I disagree that it was a good love story.

To me, it was a story about lust, broken lives, lying, and cheating.

I felt terrible for his wife and children.

yes there will always be places that ban movies with LGBT contents, here, in malaysia many of LGBT movies don't even get pass the cencorship boards. i only knew about broke back mountain through a gay portal. thank god gay movies comes out in DVDs......
here, being gay itself is a crime and you would be thrown in jail indefinitely until they feel like letting you out..... so all you guys out there, appreciate the freedom that you guys have. we do not even have the luxury of kissing or display of affections in public. and i (personally) do envy your freedom....

the uk didnt want it not because of the content ..but because it was the most boring film we have ever seen if it had been the same story with a man and women it would have been slatted by all critics but because it had two men it became an art film ...but my god it was complete rubbish ..it irrates me so much, nobody is bothered about two men having s*x its on our tv every night on sky but for god sake put a story to it ....

I haven't seen it but I have heard bad things from friends who have seen it, not becasue of the gay content but because the story was bad.

have no idea, but that movie was SO boring.....i can't believe it went up for an academy award, thank God crash won, but brokeback was only nominated because it had gay people in it, damn that was a boring movie!

Yes, but if one would watch the movie and use their critical thinking skills, they would see that it is a great love story of todays society and times.

Yes and they did. Stupid isn't it. it's ok to play violent films but not ok to play a movie with two men kissing.
