Zany Brainy Inc. is a specialty retailer of toys, games, books and multimedia products for kids. It sells products that entertain, educate and spark the imaginations of children up to 12 years of age. The Company opened 27 new stores during the year ended February 3, 2001, and, as of the end of the fiscal year 2000, the Company operated 188 stores in 34 states. On May 15, 2001, the Company and Children's Products, Inc., Children's Development, Inc., Noodle Kidoodle, Inc., Children's Distribution, LLC and Zany Brainy Direct, LLC, filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of Title 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.
BRIEF: Zany Brainy, Inc. is a specialty retailer of high quality toys, games, books and multimedia products for kids. For the 13 weeks ended 5/5/01, revenues rose 4% to $66.2M. Net loss totalled $19.1M, up from $7.5M. Results reflect revenues generated from additional stores opened, offset by decreased gross profit margins due to the inability to leverage store occupancy and the absence of a tax benefit.
FAO Inc. will close all its Zany Brainy stores, including its location at Rookwood Commons in Norwood, as it files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in less than a year.
The King of Prussia, Pa.-based company's Zany Brainy stores sell educational toys. It said it will sell off the inventory and leases at its stores, including at Easton and on Sawmill Road.
FAO said it might also liquidate its FAO Schwarz and Right Start stores if it can't find buyers for them. FAO Schwarz is a 141-year-old toy retailer, and Right Start specializes in developmental toys for infants and toddlers. The company said it tried to sell its brands in November without success, and was not sure they would survive.
FAO last filed for Chapter 11 in December, emerging in April. FAO bought Zany Brainy out of bankruptcy in 2001.

Target usually has a whole aisle dedicated to those sorts of learning toys (LeapFrog and so on). Otherwise, I don't know of any other store like that.
