I am coming to Houston for the Essence Festival in July. I want to know where some hot spots may be when I get there. I like hip hop music and straight guys where do they hang out?

There are plenty of bars you can go to in downtown off main street. I like crome which is a club off of shepard but you have to get there early otherwise you won't get in, no cover mixed crowd, mixed music. Rice Village is a nice place o hang out during the day, plenty of shops and restaurants.

Come to Clear Lake area, Kemah Water front has a lot of shops and restaurant action on fridays nites.
Seabrook Beach Club, all straight guys.
Mercury Room is ok, up scale club downtown area of houston.
Westheimer/ Richmond strip area has a lot of clubs. A mix.

TOC used to be a good hip-hop spot downtown, but not sure if it's still going. Look it up.

Houston is an awfully big place. It depends on how far you're willing to drive and what part of town you're going to be staying in.

they mostly hang out in basketball courts and malls.....
