I'm recovering from an illness, and I feel it has brought me and my wife closer together. I appreciate her more and I think we love each other more, if that was possible. Have you had an experience which has brought you closer to your spouse? Do we sometimes have to wait until we almost lose our lives or our loved ones to realize how much they mean to us?

Yes it can but yet it can also tear them apart too. Could go either way. Tradgedy has always brought my spouse and i closer because we cling to each other and work together through it. We had a major flood rip through our house a little over a year ago and had to redo alot of our house and rip out walls and remodel for the basement and the first floor up... It was hard but we worked together and now are somewhat built back up and stronger because of it... We lost so much material stuff but we still had each other and our kids and that is what matters!

Yes, I think it can. I was sick for a while from something the doctors thought might be serious, and it definitely brought my husband and I closer together. It's like we learned to appreciate more the time we have together, because you never know when your time comes.

It depends on the marriage before the illness. I have a disabled friend who is in a marriage where the wife has cheated several times. I'm glad that everything has worked out for you....that's great.

It's the sad truth. A friend of mine had been separated from his wife for 1 1/2 years. When his dad passed he went back home. That person is the person that you will turn to in times of trouble, because at one time, they should have been your best friend...

Yeah I think it does because when you get married part of your vows said, "...for better or worse.... in sickness and in health..." So by sticking together it shows not only do you value the vows you took before God, but you are living up to the vows you took with your spouse and honoring them by being there with them

Yes, since the old adage "you don't miss the water 'til the well runs dry" seems to apply. Whether we like to admit it or not, the daily rituals we do for/with each other become background noise.

It can if handled correctly, if not, it can blow it all to bits. I suggest grief counseling.
