I have tried to update to Yahoo Mail Beta but it tells me that my operating system is not compatible. I am using MS Windows 2000 Me operating system.

Windows 2000 and windows ME are two different operating systems. If you have windows 2000 it will work. if you have windows ME it will not. One more FYI dont update your IE for now. There are still compatibility issues with it. You can use the firefox with the adblock addon. This will work faster.

It should work, get the latest updates to your browser or get a better one. I recommend Firefox. Get it at Firefox.com. Then update it and it should be ok.
Just an FYI, Windows 2K and Windows ME are two different OS's.
