I trust the rides more than the people running the rides.
My friends and I stopped at one just for fun and bought enough tickets just to ride the "spin and puke". The operator asked if we were married. We all looked at each other and then looked at the operator who was lucky to have two or three of his teeth left and quickly said "yes, we are all married". He said "Aww, that's too bad, if you weren't I would have let you ride for free..."
So we climb into one of the spinners and realize that we are in fact the only people that will be on the ride. He started the spinning and it was really slow at first and then he just kicked it in and we were off! It was hilarious at first, I was in the middle and I couldn't even lift my head off the back of the ride. But after several minutes I got freaked out because I started to think he was really messing with us. He kept the ride going at a really high speed for about ten minutes. I had a bruise on my head from my hair clip and suffered motion sickness for the first time in my entire life!
When we got home, our men were ready to go visit the man and beat him up. We didn't let them though.

No, I don't trust the rides at carnivals. Have you ever seen the guys who travel with the carnival and set up the rides? Scary to say the least. I would wonder about their qualifications and their thoroughness in putting them together each time.
I do trust the big parks like Disney, 7 Flags or the other established ones as they have permanent employees and more safeguards to insure the safety of the rides as they don't want lawsuits and loss of business.

I am generally fatalistic about this sort of stuff trusting to the principle that if it was really dangerous we wouldn't be allowed to do it and if it wasn't maintained that they would be scared of prosecution. OK this doesn't explain why I went on a Ferris wheel in Gorky Park (Moscow) that looked like it was made out of left over Meccano :-)

Theres nothing to be scared of its rare for someone to die if thats what you mean, plus the rides only last for 30 seconds so why not live a little ..

It depends on what ride it is. Like great big roller coasters freak me out cause I feel like they are gonna break or go off the track, lol, but I still ride them cause I still think they are fun.
