it seems as though the awareness was out there and people were using protected sex. I read a lot of the questions/answers here and I am beginning to think people are getting less worried about using protection. Do you use protection as a rule or not? I'm not in the dating scene or anything but it worries me that people are starting to "let their guard down" --- am I right?

When I was very very young I remember the pill first came out or was talked about all the married women wanted it to limit the number of children they had. Condoms had been around for a long time so if condoms don't prevent pregnancy why do people think they are 100% for STDs?

Yes I use protection...and yes I think that more needs to be done about spreading the word. I don't necessarily think that people are letting their guard down as much as I think that people are not armed with enough info. Talk to your Dr., the Health Department, your parents, a nurse. Talk to your children about sex, they usually know more than you think. Everyone needs to arm themselves with info and protection. Become a volenteer for HIV/AIDS awarenes or The Vaccine Study.

I was wondering this same thing the other day... I grew up in the 80's, so it was ingrained in me to always be safe, and I ALWAYS am. Also my girlfriends are. I don't know anyone my age (mid to late 20's) that is not safe... but by the questions on here, it seems that's not the norm.. maybe it's not a representative sample, but it's definitely something to worry about!

Actually, the largest growing population of people contracting HIV/AIDS is now senior citizens. Many are widows/widowers and getting into new relationships. And they are unfamiliar with (didn't pay attention probably because they were in monogamous relationships in the 80s/90s) the practice of safe sex. Or..... they think STDs, and HIV/AIDS are something the younger generations get!
