Herbs are plants used for either seasoning or for illness and also for some rituals. It started hundreds of years ago when men discovered that certain plants made them feel better or cured some illness's. It was also used in some religious rituals to get visions by the indians or others. It was passed down from generation to genration and it is what pharmacology sprang from when men learned how to make medicine from plants. Only now they charge you an arm and a leg to get the stuff. You could research it and grow your own I guess, lol

An herb is a plant grown for culinary, medicinal, or in some cases even spiritual value. The green, leafy part of the plant is typically used. General usage differs between culinary herbs and medicinal herbs. A medicinal herb may be a shrub or other woody plant, whereas a culinary herb is a non-woody plant. By contrast, spices are the seeds, berries, bark, root, or other parts of the plant, even leaves in some cases; although any of these, as well as any edible fruits or vegetables, may be considered "herbs" in medicinal or spiritual use. Culinary herbs are distinguished from vegetables in that they are used in small amounts and provide flavor (are spices) rather than substance to food.
In botany, a herb is a plant that does not produce a woody stem, and in temperate climates usually dies, either completely (annual herb) or back to the roots (perennial herb), at the end of the growing season.

Herbs are plants: most have fragrances that are used in cooking and the flavouring of foods. Early man must have watched the animals and birds and saw how they choose specific plants when feeding. It was just a case of tasting and if you liked it, you used it again and again. An old country saying is that if a bird can eat it, then so can a human...............
