I would like to know what the city looked like back then, David's Palace.

Apparently it was a pretty dinky little mud-brick town until David decided to make it his capital. Then he expanded the city to the south and re-inforced the walls. The royal palace was apparently on an upper level with other dwellings at a lower level. Most of the buildings probably were still made of unbaked mud-brick on two or more levels with flat roofs that were used as another room or sleeping area in the heat.

Not a whole lot is known about the city in its earlier phases as it is still an occupied city and thus archaeological excavation is a little challenging. Essentially, we have snapshots of various time periods that people were lucky enough to stumble upon in the course of modern construction activity.

But I do like the previous answer about the "sounds" of the city - being a fan of Triumphs and snarkiness myself...

Dusty, hot at times, wet and cold at others. It was a bit noisy as well, with the sound of British made motorcycles, "David slew Goliath and the roar of his Triumph could be heard throughout the land"
