In my experience, a dog. I've had both and my dogs made more sounds than the cat.

hmmm that is a good question. My dog barks, whine's, howls, etc. But my cat purr's, meows, hisses... I think that a cat "has" more sounds, we just never really hear them. Cats make a hell of a noise when they are angry, scared, having sex, fighting etc... that make alot of different noise. The noises my dog makes are regular and I hear them often... So I think that cat's have more noises (we just don't hear them because dogs make the noises more often than the cats)

i would say dogs, except i have one of both and the dog does not bark a lot and the cat drives me crazy. from getting on my pillow at night and purring to meowing like crazy if i want to sleep in and wait a couple of minutes to feed it. depends on the temperament of the animal.
