Just so everyone knows but the Philles are probably the worst organization in professional sports.
1. They have the oldest continual used name in all of sports (1890-present)
2. Within that time they have won 1 title that an average of 1 title ever 116 years so all you Cubs, Red Sox and what ever you can all be relieved you are not a Phillies Fan
3. They were so cheap that at one point they purchased Sheep to cut the grass
4. They have lost more games then any other Organization with 9879 that an average of losing 85 games a year.
So I agree they are a bad organization.
Signed Phillies Fan Forever
PS I'm so glad they won their only title in my lifetime

First off, to Hair of a dog, The reason they have lost so many games, is because they have been around for so long. And 85 losses isnt horrible, what is the Tigers average? Or Tampa Bay?
Anyway...
Ok, well you are an idiot. Pat Burrell is the 3rd best player on this team behind Howard and Utley. He cant run because he got foot surgery in the off-season, and it hasnt healed. He has some great numbers right now, and he is also helping out in the clutch. If Charlie keeps sitting him in 1 game every series, he isnt going to get the numbers that he could.
Lieberthal is on the DL and Bell is playing well, so why are you complaining now. They do suck, and they are making way more money than they should. They are both untradeable, because of skill and cash. Even if we ate half of the contract, no one would want them, especially with Lieberthal getting hurt twice this season.
Rollins' problem is that he swings for the fences, and the manager should be the one blamed for this. He isnt a horrible player, he just needs to be told what he needs to do as a lead-off hitter. I personally dont think he should be traded, but he is untradeable because of the contract that Eddie gave him last year.
And now to Bobby. He needs to be traded, and im sure someone would take him, but I dont know if the Phillies will eat the 13.2 mil he is making, and get nothing for him. Again, we can thank Ed Wade for that problem.
The man that needs to go, and probibly will go soon, is good old Uncle Charlie. He is a horrible manager. He even forgot to tell Rollins he wasnt leading off the time he went into the 7th hole. Once Charlie goes, the team will be better.
Personally I hate Steinbrenner, and i would rather switch to being a Mets fan than have him own the Phillies.
And 1 last thought, This year in the offseason, we will have 21 Million from Bell, Lieberthal, and Wolf's contracts expireing. We have 21 million dollars to sign a good 3rd basemen, a solid catcher, and a number 1 starter, and there are a lot of good pitchers out there. I like the sound of: Barry Zito, Philadelphia Phillies

Let's not get crazy and wish for Steinbrenner! No Yankees need to come to Philly! (OK, I grew up in Boston, can you tell?) Seriously, though, Steinbrenner sucks anyway. When was the last time the Yankees won a WS?
I agree with you that the Phillies are mess. The real problem in my mind, that I don't think you even touched on, is the total lack of pitching, particularly in the bullpen. When the best you have is Flash Gorden, a flashback from 15 years ago, you know you're in trouble.
Another problem is that they keep getting home-run hitters who swing big, strike out and strand people on base. I mean please! What ever happened to base hits, tight defense and good pitching? It's like the owners/managers have just missed the last hundred years of baseball and are starting from scratch.
Chase Utley is a ray of hope, though, don't you think?

Considering their problems upstairs, the Phillies are doing great. They're the only team in the NLE giving the Mets any grief at all. They're way ahead to the 'fabled' 14 time division winners, the Braves. They're putting up bigger #'s in other divisions, but it's only June. The Mets are running away with the divisions, and the only team trying to stop them is Philly.
And as a long time Yankees fan, don't wish for something; you might get it. Steinbrenner has his good points, but your manager will never be able to manage his team again with Steinbrenner at the helm.

i agree with dave H. The phillies need management to realize that this season is pretty much hopeless already and start to make some moves for next year. the phils need pitching. It seems that gavin floyd will never live up to his prospect status, so lets trade him to a team that might want to take the time to develop him. Or how about bobby abreu or pat burrell. As much as i hate to say it, i think they hurt the team more than they help it. Niether one of them plays defense very well, they both make huge amounts of money and both of them are very streaky at the plate, but when they do hit, boy do they hit.

I understand...trust me....I'm a Royals fan!I would so much rather it be that way then having Steinbrenner just buy everyone. That's not how baseball works.I also do like the Yankees but I think Steinbrenner is ruining baseball by doing what he is doing.I understand though....the Royals aren't going to go anywhere until they get a new owner or he just completely changes.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but the last time I checked, Steinbrenner hasn't succeeded in putting together a WS winner in 5 years. He keeps buying players left and right and still can't win it. At least in '97, the Marlins succeeded in their mission of a one year superstar World Series winning squad. I don't know if you would necessarily want Steinbrenner in there.

I think that the Phillies do realize that they are a major league team, but what they need is better management and coaches. Also, their pitching isn't the greatest. Until they do this, the Mets will continue to beat them.

I am not mush of a ball fan but I suspect that they are not doing well. Like other sports it is to expensive to go with a family to see. They probably are just struggling this season give them a break. They are obviously a major league team.
