I think that if it is ever destroyed, it will be because of economic destruction. A slow slow downhill slide that will take decades and decades. But let's be realistic here. Nations are already developing trade agreements that make the whole concept of national borders useless. Without tarriffs and protectionism do you really have any borders at all? I expect that trend to continue. So my answer is that our borders will be removed before we go down as a nation. And it won't matter. Or like Steven Hawking recently said, the Earth will be completely unlivable because of environmental destruction caused by humans.
