This week they are encouraging members to fake time off to watch World Cup footie.
Last week they were encouraging people not to buy Puegeot cars, and therefore putting 5000 jobs at risk.
I am a member of AMICUS.
Is a trades union supposed to behave in this way, advising people how to take "sickies", and encouraging people not to buy cars and to destroy members jobs?

The "sickies" report was carried on BBC Ceefax on Thurs. 15th June 06.
The report about boycotting car sales was carried at an earlier date, also on Ceefax.

This sounds outrageous- but are you sure of your facts?
Did the union really encourage people to take time off work?
The peugeot thing is bad, but encouraging people to throw sickies is ridiculous- I wonder what the unions are for anymore- we pay to join and get what back, exactly?
I know I'm asking questions too, but just wanted you to know that I disapprove of people being off work when they are not ill- maybe the unions should be campaigning for workers to have 'bonus' days, where they 'earn' days off, instead of just not turning up!

The Union's encouragemet to workers to take time off for witnessing footie may be bad but it foregells the shape of things to come. The company is in the doldrums on account of various factors and it is almost certain that it is going to close down throwig the workers out.The workers are going out a little bit earlier. In fact, I feel that the company who can read the wriring on the walls should have shown magnanimity of giving time off to the workers for the footie. This might perhaps have elicited a positive reaction and the workers volunteered to do volunteer to do overtime work.
