Hi. I am a behavioralist and can state emphatically there is literally nothing you can do to feel totally comfortable before a speech in front of others. And its good that this is so! What we refer to as "stage fright" actually makes us super sensitized so we can be as alert as possible and do the best job. There is a higher chance if I am all relaxed that I'll screw it up by not being as responsible to the information as I could be. I've met a lot of performers and speakers.......some quite famous and they all admit to some stage fright. Its origins come from the same part of us that wants acceptance from other....friends, family, etc. If I get laughed at I feel like a failure. Well, failing in front of a crowd while doing a speech and getting laughed at seems like the ultimate nightmare. Here's what I would do. Feel your fear. Realize it is a normal part of you. Make sure you're prepared and give it your best shot. I try to remember I'm not the president or some other fantastic speaker. I'm just me and I'll do a good job. I have faith in you......Good luck. Stew

Well, my professor in my public speaking class once told us to pretend that the entire audience is naked and that will make you feel like you're the only sane person in the building. Therefore you'll feel comfortable because they're the ones with issues...Something like that...My personal advice...Whatever it is you're speaking on...practice, practice, practice...If you're familiar with your speech, you'll always feel more comfortable...Also, another way to be completely comfortable is with experience. Even the most outgoing of people are nervous when they're faced with speaking in front of a large crown of people...Just take a deep breath and go for it...If you're religious, it's always good to say a prayer before going on....Good Luck!!

To feel more comfortable when you have to speak in front of people, just take a deep breath and imagine that you're at the mall shopping for yourself with a large crowd of people looking at you.

Practice. Practice with people that love you. You'd be surprised at the number of people who are willing to listen to you practice a speech or presentation. Public Speaking is one of the top human fears so you're not alone. Think about this . . . more than half the people listening to you speak are just as afraid of speaking in front of people as you are. Relax, breathe, pause where you need to and accept whatever mistakes you make. Even those of us who love public speaking mess up.

Just practice... the more you talk in front of people, the easier it gets. You could take a speech or public speaking course as a way to find an audience to practice in font of.

I wear glasses, so what I used to do is take them off (I can see close) and find 3 points above everyones heads. Scan the tops of those 3 spots and just forget about who you are speaking to.

I would suggest that learning how to breath from your diaphragm could help. Deep breathing has helped me with the same problem. Here is a link.
