Dada. But that was more sound recognition than cognitive speach. Definately the first word with intent was mumma.
And now that he's almost 3, only stops talking when sleeping and asks questions all day, every day, I often wonder why I was so eager to teach him to talk!

With my first child it was : mama
With my second chilh it was: dada
I really had to work hard to get my 2nd daughter to say dada because my husband was at war at the time and it took a bit of creativity to get her to understand it. It was such a special moment for him when he heard his baby call him dada from thousands of miles away.

My son said Mom Mom on my birthday, then Dada, but his first real word was Dog/Duck. It's hard to tell since we have a dog, and he is his best friend, and he also has a lot of duck toys.

Ah ghoo. But then, she was not yet two months old at that time. She has an extensive vocabulary now, as a 13 week old. Unfortunately, I can't understand it.

Momma. My husband was in Iraq so he didn't hear dadda that often. He did say it about two weeks later when we had a video conference with my husband! When we were waiting for our turn, I told my son if he said dadda while we were in there, we'd go to Toys R Us and get him the biggest toy in there. My husband was so touched when he said it, it was amazing.

Though I tried my hardest to get them to say mama, they both said da da first and I've never forgiven them.
