I was having problems at the very beginning of my pregnancy. I was 4 weeks along and was given a vaginal ultrasound. No heart beat. 3 days later I had another one because they thought I might of miscarried. And there it was, the heart beating. What a relief!!!!!So I was between 4-5 weeks along. Now, my sweet little boy will turn 1 next week.

Only the first answerer knows the answer to this question so far...the heart begins to beat between 4 and 5 weeks, it can be detected as early as 5 weeks, but definitely by 8 weeks at the latest with a transvaginal ultrasound. So the average answer would be about 6 weeks, though it can be detected earlier than that.

By transvaginal ultrasound it can be heard by about 5-6 weeks. In the doctor's office, it really depends on the mother's size. With a smaller gal, the doctor may be able to pick up the baby on a doppler by about 9-10 weeks. But if you are bigger, it may be a week or 2 later.

I went for to the doctors at 10 weeks the heartbeat can not be heard yet but on the ultrasound you can see it beating. I think you can hear in by a doppler at around 12-14 weeks.

With my son..the doctor picked up his heartbeat via dopplar at 12 weeks. This is usually when my OB's schedule this visit....I am pregnant again (8 weeks right now), and am scheduled to hear my baby's heartbeat on July 13th (making me 12 weeks, 1 day).

Heartbeats can be picked up via ultrasound as early as 5 weeks, however. It just depends on your OB and their technology and procedures. Good luck with your baby!! Congratulations!
