know anyone (teenager) who was emancipated as a minor. What were your circumstances? My son's girlfriend is almost 17 and is quite pregnant - we need to find out about getting her emancipated in order to live with us and be placed on our lease. We are in Florida and laws differ from state to state. Can you give me any information on how complicated the process is? Her father doesn't have a problem with her staying with us so there are no arguments about anything.

Just have the baby in a good place - and marriage in the u.s. is always possible from the age of 18 on (for girls).

Do not worry to much about legal marriage - first get the child born in good health - for that it is important that everybody has as little stress as possible.

See if there are people in your close-friends and family that can help out.

Not very complicated at all. I was attempting that, but since I waited so long (almost 18) my attorney said to save my money and ride it out. My circumstances revolved around running away a few years before, no pregnancy or anything like that. If her father knows where she is and doesn't care, that is considered verbal custody, or something along those lines.
(yea had that too)
Anyway aside from her being on the lease is it really that big of a deal? Can't it wait a couple of months? Being 17 she should be allowed to be on the lease no problem as she is still cnsidered a child, by the law.
BTW, if you have had any problems with each other I.E; the fuzz being called for any reason; then don't bother. She has to prove that she can make a good decision about where to live or she could get locked up. Yea it's stupid but the judge is gonna look.

I knew a girl who was in the same situation and she won her emancipation quite easily , you simply file a motion with the court and state the reasons for the emancipation and if all parties are in agreement then there should be no problem . You will need legal representation .

When I was a young man, I was emancipated due to insurance concerns as a result of a number of automobile accidents so my parents had me emancipated here in Louisiana. It is not an involved process--any lawyer can do it for you and it is not expensive. I am not sure what Florida requires but I would seek out your family legal advisor or just check the phonebook for one. Please accept my best wishes for a successful solution to your son's girlfriend's situation and for a easy and successful delivery!

So, I guess marriage is out of the question? What's the matter with you people?

She's 16, so your son might well be guilty of statutory rape.

And your concern is the damned lease? If I were this girl's father, I'd be on the way over with a shotgun. If I were her mother, I'd be getting her as far away from you as possible.

You might just want to think about leaving these people, and their daughter, alone. It doesn't sound like you have her best interests at heart. Just go away.

I just watched "Windfall" last week and the 17 yr old boy drove to Fla (coincidence?) to get married for the sole purpose of emancipation. Is that not an option?

if her father has no problem then all you should have to do is call the court house and find out what to do if anything because shes 17 she could just go technically she's counted as an adult for she's having a child of her own

Go to the county court house and talk to the county attorney to find out what is allowed in your state. The girl can also seek legal aid and depending on her income, should not cost too much.
