For a couple of months I had UV gel artificial nails to which I took them off myself. Now my fingernails are a really bright yellow colour. What, if anything, can I do to get rid of them as I don't want to wait for them to grow out and I am fed up hiding them with nail polish?

the yellow color is actually coming from your continued use of nail polish. you could try using a lighter shade for a few months as the pigment fades, then gradually switch to clear or translucent. (red shades in particular, are bad for staining your nails).

you might also take some supplements to improve your overall nail health. vitamin e would be good, and gelatin, of all things -- you can take it orally or eat it through food such as jello.

good luck!

Use bleach!

Be careful that in is diluted in water and not too strong to burn your skin!

Use a nail brush to assist and you may have to do this several times to get all the yellow colouration off!

Sally Hensen does a nail whitener that you can just paint on. You can get it from superdrug or boots. Also, don't wear any coloured nail varnish without a clear base coat on first otherwise it will stain your nails too.

There really is no other way other than to wait for then to grow out. I know it's a pain to have to keep putting on polish but other than that... you'll have to go with the falsies again :(
