it's so nice to hear all your birth stories,
i can identify with so many of you,i also had a third degree tear and was in theatre for two hours after getting stitched up,i also wouldn't let the midwife touch me.
my labour was 5 hours in all but after pushing began my baby was born in 18 minutes, she flew straight out and oh i loved that gas and air.

you described it pretty well yourself, there is no way to describe it completley, except...hurts like hell...but well worth the pain :)

I always heard about the 'feeling like your insides are on fire' and the burning when the head is crowning, but I had none of that. Seriously, the only thing I remember was that the contractions were very uncomfortable, but not at all painful. Other than that, I really felt nothing as far as the delivery. And I had no drugs or anything. I pushed when I had a contraction, but didn't feel anything painful. It was a really good experience, especially for the first time, but apparently my mom was the same way with us kids. Guess I just got lucky.

I had plenty of drugs when I had my daughter, but the pain was still incredible - the contractions! When it came to pushing her out, the worst thing for me was that I could feel her head on my bones as she squeezed through - she kept going back in as the contraction receded and the midwife was saying 'here she is, oh no she's not'. so I gave one almight push and she flew about a foot down the bed - I actually saw the midwife's head turn like she was at a tennis match. Was I glad when it was all over!

My sister's friend has just had a little boy and he was over 10lbs!

I had back labour the first time so it felt like red hot pokers though my body as I had the normal labour pains too. The crowning sensation was the worst bit, feels like the worlds biggest chinese burn on your most sensitive parts!! Second time was easier because I had him in the water and it took the chinese burn feeling away, problem with that was I could feel him turn in the birth canal which wasnt a pleasant feeling!
Had gas and air both times, only so I could bite on the pipe though. Would recommend the water birth to anyone, much easier

It's different for everyone. Some have an easier time than others. I've had 3 and it was different each time. I'd do it every day of the week, if I was going to get any more such fabulous kids. And it nearly killed me. I remember every painful moment. Life is a miracle, and the opportunity to participate in bringing it into the world is precious. I hope that becomes clear to you as you recover. I send baby a big, careful hug--and you, too.

Well, I had c-sections for both of mine but I laboured 20 hours with my first, then 10 hours with my second before the c-section decision was taken! Can't describe the pain - I went to another place altogether and was totally silent all the way through. A friend of mine once asked, 'If it hurts so much, why don't we cry?'. Good question. I didn't have an answer for that one either!

Needing to go for a dump. I swear it was the only thing on my mind. I refused to give birth cause there was a dump in the way and to me it felt like that was giving me the cramps inbetween the waves of the contractions. As fate would have it it did come out before the baby ... She weighed 6lb9oz. I only had gas and air too.

First baby 8lb 12oz. It hurt. The pain made me want to run away and I kept trying! It's quite funny looking back. I had gas and air and pethidine. Gas and air was useless and the pethidine just seemed to slow everything down. Had another though, but second time had a c-section. Far more dignified all round in my opinion!

It is like the worst pain in the world but the best at the same time and with each pain that comes you feel like you have got over another hurdle and got a step closer to holding your beautiful little baby. Then when you start pushing you know just a few more pushes and you will get to see your baby. then finally it is all over and they place your little baby in your arms for the first time and it gazes up at you as if to say hi mummy!!! Then the pain is forgotten.

Well the only big pain I remember in labor was the contractions which were horrible. Even with demoral they were still nasty. But this 'ring of fire' that everyone tried to warn me about wasn't half as bad as what they were saying. I ripped and had a third degree tear down there, but all I felt was a teeny tiny burn. I didn't find childbirth that bad, and it was my first time.

my son was 16 days late, sun 13 june 2004 i was taken to hospital to be induced , which didnt work so on the thursday i had dilated about 1 to 2 centermeters so they broke my water, then gave me a drip in increase the contractions, then took 3 attemps to give me and epidural. 12 hours later i was 8 centermeters, his heart rate droped i had a high temperature and to top it all of he moved and got stuck on my pelvis. so now they want to do a c section, they topped up my epidural, but they didnt give me enough, i felt every moment of the c section, i screamed the whole way through it. anyway my son was born 18/06/2004 at 4.57 am, 8lbs 12ozs. he is lovely and worth every minute of it (i didnt think that at the time lol)
