bees collect pollen and necter. they eat these, and they also make honey (basically, as mentioned before by someone, by vomiting the pollen and nectar they ate). they make the honey meaning it to be stored for the winter days, when they usually don't go foraging as much. this is the honey that we people take from them, and in order that the bees don't starve during the winter, bee keepers give them something else to eat. usually it's just (very) sugared water.

It depends on the type of bee. Some eat nectar from flowering plants while others eat other insects or spiders.
