If all of a sudden you realized you had this ability, how would you use it? How could it impact the lives of you and those around you? Would you teach others how to do it? Would people fear your ability to know their thoughts?

First thing i'd do is transmit thoughts of loving kindness to someone i long to be near but cant right now on the other side of the world. I would use it to get inside ill minds and help rebuild a balance and harmony. I would form a secret circle of moral and compassionate people and teach them so as to help the world around us without being enslaved to some military service. It would be too great a gift to keep alone yet too great a gift to just give to anyone.
I would not fear it but embrace the truth of those around me.

Knowledge and information are sources of power (and telepathic abilties are too), so it's a matter of one's own morality, values, moods even how he's going to use it. I wouldn't show off and demonstrate it among many people, because I woudn't enjoy staying at a secret laboratory with wires in my brain for the rest of my life:"), but I would try to use it for good things only (like helping a baby that can not speak yet, stopping a crime, buying a present, in sex, love etc.) and try not to let the feeling of superiority, the power corrupt me..

You can help others by using it in a positive manner. It took me awhile to learn that the feelings and dreams that I had where warning to hellp others in my life. Yes, it spooks them because they may not understand, but when what you have forwarned or felt comes about or you open up and discuss it with them, you will be surprised and how others will begin to listen.

Although this sounds like a wonderful gift to have, and it could be very useful at times, I believe it is better that you don't know everything that is going on in someone else's head.
