Courting means that someone is "dating" you. To be courted by someone was that you were being being looked at for the purpose of marriage and mating. It was a term more common in the 1800s and early 1900s and it almost was always done with the supervision of an older adult.

Courting is an old-fashioned term for dating. It was usually used when a young couple where seriously involved. You would hear it more often these days in old movies and maybe from some older people

If my memory serves me correctly, courting is a form of dating whereby your 'court' is open to accepting those of the opposite sex (although that part is subject to locally accepted practices too nowadays) as 'suitors', who can come by with gifts & offers for your 'hand', first in interest, then in earnest, for offers of eventual betrothal or even for casual encounters.

Its an old school term that referred to when I girl had a boyfriend and he took her out and tried to win her over... I think they also used to say "woo" in the same context as in "Jennifer is being courted (wooed) by Mark and I think they are becoming really serious..."
