Uh-oh. Sounds like a nasty respiratory infection, possibly pneumonia. Get to a doctor immediately.

Have you had a recent nosebleed or have you been coughing alot lately. This could be the reason for the blood. If not, I'd suggest going to a doctor asap because it could be bronchitis, pneumonia, lung cancer and a whole list of other things. Only a doctor could tell you for sure. Go soon, it sounds serious. God speed.

What's the doctor saying? Does he think it isn't anything to worry about? Has he referred you to anyone else? Without more info its hard to help, but coughing up blood sounds like it should be treated more seriously than this.
I'd recommend getting a second opinion.

depends on the amount of blood, is it bright red or frothy pink. Your blood leaves the heart and goes through the lungs to be oxygenated. If you have a heart condition, the blood could be bogged down and backed up, (left sided heart failure) where it floods the sacs in the lungs. It could end up then being coughed up in a pink frothy like blood. Or It could be a lung problem like ards that causes it (almost like a pnumonia problem. Or you could have a trauma to the lungs causing it to bleed. If you are coughing up blood, go to the ER
