Several reasons:

1. not everyone here is a native speaker of English and therefore spelling might not come that easily to us (although I notice that even native speakers have a lot of problems with spelling, too).

2. people type very fast and churn out questions at high speed - typos are the result.

3. I notice that a lot of people use abbreviations from texting. Personally I don't like that at all.

But then again - as long as you can understand the question, then communication is still possible. So let's not get too strict with spelling...

I've noticed that even some very intellegent people (otherwise) cannot spell.
When I was in school if you turned in a paper with misspelled words, points were subtracted from your grade. Now they just seem to ignore it and go on. It's sad for those who never learn.
