There are actually more than nine planets. This is a topic that is ever changing. Scientists are still struggling with how to define a planet. Pluto is actually more of an asteroid than a planet just as Planet X. The problem is these two planets can be defined as planets and asteroids.

They're still not sure it IS a planet. I could be a large asteroid or a planetoid that has a large eccentric orbit. It might only come around close to earth every few thousand years or so. Astronomy is time-consuming and extremely tedious. However, like many people, I am fascinated by the universe.

I think there is still disagreement as to whether it is a planet, a moon, or just what. I noticed that when the news first broke, they were calling it Charon, then later I saw another name used. According to ancient astrology, when the 10th planet is discovered, it will be (called) Vulcan. Astrologers have known of its existence for decades, although it was never seen until just recently.

The most recent planet has yet to be classified as a planet by the International Astronomical Union. The IAU needs to officially classify and name a new planet before any changes get made to the textbooks.

they are not sure if it meets the criteria established for the definition of a planet; also, they are re-examining pluto to see if it actually meets that criteria as well
