"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet". It makes reference to the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues. You have to remember Romeo and Juliet were from two feuding families. When Romeo spoke those words he was saying that the name was of no importance, and that he loved Juliet regardless of her last name.

Shakespeare isn't saying people shouldn't have a name. What Juliet is trying to convey is that Romeo's name should not have such a controlling part on her love for him. She is basically stating that it is tragic that Romeo was her sworn enemy.

a name with which you associate, affects your consciousness with the element which the name represents.
morover with such a large no. of people with different consciousness,it provides an individuality,,and to satisfy your ego you HIGHLIGHT that name,and that answers your 2nd question
