Totally depends on your application. The computer used by a gamer is totally different from a server, which is totally different from a media center pc.

Gaming: The MaxPC dream machine
Server: Bull NovaScale Fame box with 1024 processors built for french nuclear research.
Media Center PC: whatever the latest MCP is from dell.

For Laptops: Dell or Sony Vaio
