on the island of cyprus, where some of the oldest copper mines in the world are, there are pits where the people bult large fires and threw the malachite in. when the fire died and cooled, semi pure copper was at the bottom. frome there refining copper was born

copper does appear in pure form in nature, but is mined and refined from ore that has traces of it to get industrial amounts. Just like gold.

well, as far as I know about 10000 years ago Chinese extracted copper by approaching special method of minining that we call it today solution minining in this method they dug holes and then they enjected acid or other chemicals for dissolution of Cu from rocks then they used that liquid for extracting Cu, this method already is used for extracting Cu, U, Au,...

high grad ore,flakes and veins,it had to be easy to extract and pretty obvious.
