If you are from any other place besides United States and Canada, you are taught that the continents of North America and South America are one continent. That is why there are only 5 olympic rings in the olympic symbol. They stand for the five inhabited and participating "continents" America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
If you consider North and South America one continent, then the continent of America would be #1 and Asia number #2.
I have never understood why anyone would consider North and South America to be the same continent when they are only connected by a very small piece of land, and at the sametime, consider Asia and Europe to be seperate continents when they are basically one continuous land mass. But, oh well, I figure that is what was meant by this question.

Many people in other countries consider Russia a part of Europe not Asia so maybe that is why people consider it second largest. I feel that Russia is a part of Asia and that Asia is the largest continent.
