I always dread holidays like Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc. etc.

I agree with you, but these so-called consumer holidays have been part of our lives for so long it seems almost impossible to ignore them. If I didn't acknowledge Mother's Day for my mother she would be hurt.

I think it's more important to do something special for your mother or father on these occasions that require little or no money such as making a nice dinner from things you already have in your fridge or pantry, renting a movie or just spending some time with them and talking to them...letting them know they are appreciated.

Anybody can buy an expensive piece if jewelery, but I think doing something from the heart is more meaningful.

of course not... F*uck those stupid holidays they back you into a corner and if you tell you mom/gf/dad etc. that you refuse to support a consumer holiday, you just end up looking like a cheap douche-bag...nothing you can do...

You don't have to observe those holidays if you don't want to. Just ignore them if they bother you that much. Your parents might be a bit disappointed, though.

i was a florist for a few years, valentines day was a mad house!!
