By their blind backing of Israeli aggression US presidents (not only Mr Bush) have made America hated by the Arab world. This blind backing caused 9/11, which caused Afghanistan and Iraq.
It's getting worse, not better. "The War on Terror" is set to become a kind of 3rd World War.
The way out is clear : back away from Israel or force Israel to back away from the occupied territories and accept a much smaller state. No President who continues the blind backing is anything but a traitor to America's best interests.

Thanks everyone for your reasonable responses. Just 6 months ago there 'd have been a lot of hate mail against me.

hhabilis: thanks for your contribution, which makes sense, but doesn't address the fundamental issue: how to save America. One is sorry for brave little Israel, but it is America's blind support for Israel that is threatening to destroy America.

Israel has been trying to back away from the occupied territories. But vowing that there will be no rest until the destruction of Israel is accomplished doesn't seem like a way to promote peace. Israel is wrong for occupying Palestinian land, but don’t look to them to give any real land back until they are assured (honestly) they will be safe.

So what is the difference between strapping on a bomb and blowing it up in a crowded market place/bus stop and dropping a missile onto the build where the organizer of part one lives. In the first, the scene the murder kills and wounds dozens. The killer is called a martyr and is celebrated for his/her act of murder. In the second dozens are killed and wounded and the act is called an illegal and unreasonable assault.

Religious fundamentalism (Islamic, Christian, Judaic) is a great piece of the problem. Intolerance; the desire to impose one's will, moral code and beliefs on others; hatred; and the conviction that 'only your system of religion/government is correct is what got the world here. We are all at fault.

Everyone seems to forget the things that don't fit their model for thought. case: you whine about American mistreatment of the Arab world..... Who went to the aid of the (mostly) Muslim victims of the tsunami in 2004? Not the Muslims. How about acknowledging who is killing whom in Africa? Where were the Muslims when Syria invaded Lebanon, annexed it and raped its resources for almost 2 decades? Where was the Arab condemnation of the 2002 Muslim tribal court-ordered rape of a girl in Pakistan as punishment for crimes that her brother was accused of? The list goes on. The truth is that there will be conflict as long as either member in the conflict refuses to be honest in their complicity for their own bad acts.

Notwithstanding, it may be clear to you, but nothing so complicated is either clear or simple. Justifying the murder of the flight crews and thousands of innocents because one doesn't like their treatment without acknowledging one's own part is what I would expect from a young child not an adult. I suggest that you may have misplaced the term 'traitor'.

The REAL causes for the invasion of Iraq will likely only come to light in the decades following this sad event's end.

I think American citizens have the answer... i think a better thing to ask would b 'is it worth trying to save America?' The way it is i think it should be abolished and a civilized country conducive to and respecting all human life installed in its place... i think believe that s still possible.

I think it is too late for the hate mongers of the islamic faith. You will never win and soon you will have destroyed the youth of your religion to gain power for a few old men who wish to dictate to others what to believe

Hate is not caused.

It's a CHOICE you make to compensate for your inability to deal with your responsibilities and issues.
