I completely agree with you.It is pointless.A good plan right now is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.

Your question presupposes that nothing can be learned from the past and nothing can be prevented, avoided by anticipating future actions. When a dog, playing with another dog sees his playmate killed by a truck, his present, current actions before a truck will be to stay away from it. A soldier that has seen how his friends got shot by poking their heads over the edge of the trench will crouch down to avoid being shot. Now, one thing is to take preventive action based on past experience and another is being overly anxious about the danger. People worry about the future because we can make an educated guess, but not a true prediction of the future. They worry about the past because one of the things that distinguishes us from animals is the ability to feel remorse for inflicting suffering and damage on others. A lioness does not feel any remorse for having eaten our child even though we may perceive it as "bad" action.

from the history you can predict and evaluate what your present actions will cause in the future, if you had no past and no future or you don't "worry" or think about them, you are without a context, if you do worry about them, it shows you care about your actions and other people... otherwise, i agree with you, pro-actively speaking, you shouldn't concentrate too much on what lies behind and ahead, but just do your best in the here and now!

Forget the past that sleeps
And ne'er future dream at all
But live in times that are with thee
And progress thee shall call
