Because he's trying to rally his base. I'm pretty disappointed in the guy. I think it might be an act of desperation, but it's still not justifiable.

Basic politics of the democratic party. Create fear and the deomocrats return to power. It is they're only hope.Being that they traditionally are the tree hugger party his propaganda very well could restore them to power.
