India is the second most populous country in the world and the largest democracy. Therein lies the problem: poverty of the masses created by the centuries old system of governance by the British and the Indian government, the state authorities, the wealthy and the criminals. The Indian people is one of the saddest in a democracy.

Subcontinent.

Country.

Never been there, but know and work with some people from there. Not really sure what you are asking.

It is also a hotbed of AIDS which is not a good thing.

Overpopulated.

Source of cheap labor... see overpopulated.

Source of some very talented and dedicated people.

What I have found over the years is that people from India are either very very technically savy, or a waste of oxygen.

Now, I am not going to do the technically savy part, because it is boring. But I know quite a number of them that impress the hell out of me. Keep that in mind, because I am going to give you stories about two that didn't. And I am not trying to characterize people from India with this, like I said, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada.

Way back when, I worked as an Assistant manager at a drug store. We had strict hiring requirements at the time: You had to be able to breath without help.

OK,

Had a guy that stocked the Automotive aisle. Alcoholic.

"Mr. Riley, I have oil on the shelf. What can I use to get it off?"

"Henry, got some 409 cleaner over there. It is good for cleaning up grease. Don't pick it up by the top though, the top is broken"

"I need something strong, Oil is hard to remove"

"Henry, the 409 will do fine. Don't pick it up by the top though, the top is broken"

"Will it clean up oil?"

"Yeah Henry, it will clean up oil. Don't pick it up by the top though, it is broken"

At this point, I had customers on that aisle that were looking at me strangely, until of course he picked it up by the top. About 2 feet off the floor, the plastic bottle dropped, and spilled 409 everywhere. I sort of shrugged, and the customers laughed.

The second one was a female cashier. Early morning shift. One of her jobs was to clean the glass on the doors. We had supermarket type doors, as in the kind that open automatically when you step on the pad.

She never had the sense to turn them off. I am probably going to hell for this, but I never told her how to do it. It was too much fun watching her chase the door trying to clean the inside, then getting smooshed up against the wall cleaning the outside.

I know I am going to hell for it. But I was busy counting out the deposit with the head cashier in the office, and it was just so funny.

Oh, and her cash register would stop working. It was electronic of course, it needed power. She called me over "Mr, Riley, it keeps turning off".

"You are stepping on the power cord, and disconnecting it from the plug"

"No sir"

"You are freaking doing it now!"

"Oh".

That was fun.

And I know some damned good scientists and DBA's from India, but, of course I don't have any good stories to tell about them. They just do a great job of doing their job.

India is a "Tiger Economy". She is booming, just like China. But as in China, there are many poor, but their numbers are dropping, as they rise up and up. The food is good and the culture is interesting. It is a land of a thousand tales, and only a few have been told. This is one of the worlds' most diverse nation, whether it is culturally, linguistically or in a Food sense.
