Its possible...I wouldnt worry too much, I would assume that the blood center who drew the blood tested it for a variety of dieases before they would hand it over to the hospital.

You can't get a disease by giving blood...unless the phlebotomist uses a needle that's been previously used on an infected person.
You *can* get a disease from receiving another person's blood, but as others have written, it's highly unlikely with the screening processes currently in place.
By the way, if you know you're going to receive a transfusion, you can ask family and friends that you trust who have your same blood type to donate on your behalf. Only their blood will be used by your request. I'm not sure how many days in advance they would have to donate (I'm sure their blood would still be tested).
Ask your doctor or the hospital where you plan to give/receive.

If you give blood usually no, as long as they have one time use needles.
If you reveive blood, very likely. Everybody has different types of germs, organisms in their body. Some are benign, some are harmful and some in between. If they do testing they will only screen out the most severe deseses like HIV. There are many more other deseases that are not detectable.
You are always at risk to catch something that is maybe not life threatening, but still harmful to your helth for short term or permanently.

Most blood is tested before you recieve it in a transfusion and the needles should be sterilized if you decide to give blood. There has been some cases of diseases in the blood, but it's extremely rare.

If a dirty needle is used or if diseased blood is given...definitely, though I would guess the risk of this is extremely unlikely due to the precautions taken by medical professionals today.

i was intrigued by ur question becuz ur screen name is tatoo? hmm well its unlikely but its possible when recieving blood you can get something, but its so rare that happens i wouldnt worry about it. if you give blood as long its not a vampire and actully reputable place like the red cross you should be fine they steralize all of there stuff its the law.. fyi chances of getting a disease is higher from getting a dirty tattoo artist.

Not if you give blood-in the states anyway. They use new, sterilized needles.
Recieving blood has risks. They're supposed to test all of it, but I wouldn't bet on them testing for everything (herpes, for instance).
If you're in a situation where you have to recieve blood, you might as well take your chances.

It is very unlikely. Good medical pracitces mean blood gets screened for every disease they can think of. Also, disposable needles for donors.

If you are having surgery, you can also inquire about donating your own blood to be used should you need a transfusion.
