Where I'm from (US), indian summer refers to a patch of hot weather in the early fall. I'm assuming in the UK it's the same (I live in the UK, but have never heard the expression used here.)

an indian summer is where it stays warmer longer than it should do eg a 2 week heat wave in october with temperatures of 21c+..
