"regenerating oil fields" as in oil supply's that replenish themselves. For instance , i heard on a radio show that there is an oil field off the gulf of mexico that has been proven to regenerate it's supply of oil. Seismographic evidence suggested that this oil supply will keep producing oil, and indications are that there are more oil supplies underground or under the ocean that are also doing this. The search term you use i believe is "Abiotic" or "ambiotic" oil - one of those. The reason this study is so important is that if this is all true , then oil will never run out , and we will always have it. I would like to see someone follow up on this story , you should do it!

Knee-jerk would be testing of the groundwater in your area, but I'm sure everyone's doing that.
Check with the city and see if they use weed killer on the roadsides.
Ask at the garden center what the most popular manufactured fertilizer is and do a report on the ingedients.
