"I don't have to look. Others will do it for me." The mantra of the common North American Idiot. Seriously, half of the questions I see would be answered with a Yahoo search that takes a astoundingly less time. What do you think?

No...from the questions I've read I think this site has more to do with the lonely, the bored and the insecure.... It's a mean of interacting with people...in some weird impersonal twisted kind of way. And I suppose it poses some sort of comfort to see people searching for answers to questions you might have. The whole I'm not the only one type thing. I openly admit I would be the bored, that and I just find other peoples views on the wonders and obstacles of life really interesting.

two things:

1 - having done a lot of net research myself, i know sometimes a very simple answer is infuriatingly difficult to find when you don't know where to look. so a place where someone might have the answer without looking is a treasure trove. searching takes time and skill. asking here doesn't really. granted, that's really not the case with most of the questions you're referring to, but still, a thought.

2 - yahoo set this up as a place that is not meant for discussion but simply for a question, to be followed by answers. this very obviously precludes a lot of great questions, which by their nature would engender debate. most people who would ask interesting questions are turned off by the lack of discussion and the blabber of nonsense questions and don't hang around.

There is an art to using search engines.

That said, when you can put the question, IN QUOTES into google and get the answer, yeah, the asker was either real lazy or real stupid.

The questions are about communicating with other people who have possibly wondered about the same. It is not about finding an answer, it's about finding an answer to the question: have someone else wondered about the same. Gives us a feeling that we are not alone in the world with our dilemmas, and interests.

i agree with you to a certain point. it also wouldnt hurt if some form of common sense was used when asking health or some other form of question that requires the person that answers to be a professional to answer correctly

Well, you're here, aren't you? And what about the people that use this site to voice or hear opinions? Are they "too lazy" too?
