On seeing a cannibal (which ur sensory system interpretes as a stressor), a msg will be sent to ur hypothalamus which secretes corticotrophic releasing hormones to the pituitary gland where adrenocorticotrophine is produced and sent to the adrenal cortex to become corticosteroids; this then activates the liver to produce & distribute glucose to the body as needed.
At the same time, another hypothalamic msg has been sent to the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system which activates the adrenal gland for production of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
This then prepares the body externally for fight or flight: hair stands on end, pupils dilate, tongue dries up, etc. This first stage is called the alarm reaction.
Then comes the resistance stage where u actually decide how to deal with the stressor. Such decision will be affected by personality types. Some people may choose emotion focused strategies to think differently of the situation, maybe try to convince themselves that the cannibal won't necessarily eat them, others may choose behavioural modifications to deal with the stressor by fighting (eating in this case) or fleeing; some may even choose both.
Personally, i'll flee or kill him if i can.
And finally, there's the exhaustion stage which occurs if the stressor persists. Maybe if ur continually faced with cannibals.
In this stage, the alarm reaction keeps repeating itself and the body's hormone store runs out as there's no time to produce more. This is because systems like he immune and digestive systems which are not involved in the process are shut down in the response. In severe cases, it results in stress related illnesses like high blood pressure, hypertension, atherosclerosis, etc. There have been many studies to prove these results.
So i suggest u deal with the cannibals as fast as possible, cos if they don't kill u, ur body will. That's d stress response for u.
Now that's what u study in psychology.

Well that really depends on a few things. First off.. assuming that said attacking cannibal was clean, it would be essential to have a large supply of water available. I've heard from other cannibalistic friends that they are really quite dry and tough... so the more to wash it down the better. Second, you really have to consider just how you would cook him. I would assume that you would catch some sort of disease from raw human flesh, so essentially, fire is important. I'm sure even cavemen cannibals figured that out. So I guess, yes, yes I would eat the cannibal in self defense, pending that there is nice supply of water and a good cooking fire. Oh, and the cannibal was attacking me and stuff. That's pretty important. I don't want to eat an innocent cannibal.

If I merely encountered a cannibal, I wouldn't have to do anything in self defense (although I would report them to the police because cannibalism is against the law), although I think you're implying that it's a cannibal who tries to kill and eat me. If that's the case, I'd defend myself, but under no circumstances would I eat them.

If I were hungry - yes I would eat what is available.
But I do not consider eating as a defence.

I'd give him a swift kick in the nuts, that'd give even the slowest amongst us a chance to escape!

Depends on his aggressiveness in obtaining his meals. But, I generally wouldn't eat him/her, I'd just defend myself and this may have the unintended effect of killing him/her.

it would be rude not to but i would only eat a bit of him while he watched to show him the error of his ways then remove his teeth and give them back when hes earned my trust .

I'd lock him up and see if he starts to eat himself when he gets hungry.
