The first world cup was held in (and won by) Uruguay. The first match of that tournament was France vs Mexico

The first World Cup was played in Uruguay, the first games were France v Mexico and USA v Belgium (they kicked-off at the same time) and the first game by Argentina was against France, on July 15th 1930. They won 1-0 with a goal by Luis Monti
