I am from the Philippines and I am planning to do some post grad studies abroad. I am in the field of chemical sensors/material science. I also heard that UC-Berkeley is a good Chemistry graduate school.

MIT it is by far the best and has more awards than any other school!

If you are looking for a postdoc, you have to write a letter to each professor that you might want to work for. You don't have to look at the department. The professor offers you a postdoc job. Look for a group of people that do research that you find interesting that isn't exactly the same as what you are currently doing. Your graduate school advisor and any postdocs in your department ought to be able to give you some advice on how to go about doing this.

CalTech has the electronic Nose research. Nano Technology. Check out Harry Atwater for materials for electronics. Carnegie Mellon University has sensors lab. See M.W. Siegel web page.

Usually, Professors offer you post doctor positions. You work as an employee of the Professor. You don't usually pick the school, unless you have competing offers.

MIT has a better reputation for chemistry and material science.

It sounds as if you need to choose the PERSON you want to work for, instead of the school. That is probably much more important.
