The Universe cannot be infinite, because it is expanding, which points to its origin where everything began at the same point, namely the singularity of the Big Bang. Therefore, if it is expanding, it is bounded.
However, it is thought that it probably doesn't have an edge, much like the Earth doesn't have an edge. If you started in a spaceship and went in a straight line, you would eventually end up where you started, much like if you started at the North Pole and went in a straight line, you would end up back the North Pole.
The reason: although you would be going in a straight line on the 2-D surface of the Earth, that line is curved in the 3rd dimension. So, if spacetime is curved in the 4th dimension, you could be going in a straight line 3 dimensionally, but it would be curved 4th dimensionally.

The galaxy, yes it has an end. The universe - Nope. Not endless. Because every second a star is dying and a new one, born - forever in every direction, to infinity. - peace.

For other uses, see Universe (disambiguation).
The term universe has a variety of meanings based on the context in which it is described.
In materialist philosophical terms, the total universe is the summation of all matter that exists and the space in which all events occur. In cosmological terms, the universe is thought to be a finite or infinite space-time continuum in which all matter and energy exist. It has been hypothesized by some scientists that the universe may be part of a system of many other universes, known as the multiverse.
The part of the universe that can be seen or otherwise observed is usually called the known universe, observable universe, or visible universe. Because cosmic inflation removes vast parts of the total universe from our observable horizon, most cosmologists accept that it is impossible to observe the whole continuum and may use the expression our universe, referring only to that knowable by human beings in particular.

The GALAXY is not endless. But the universe is supposedly infinite. Though that sounds like a midnight decision to me. I think it is just bigger than we want to think about.

The universe is believed to be at least 10 billion light-years in diameter.
One theory suggests that the universe is expanding still but will eventually slow down and stop and contract back again. But that's going to be a while, so you can breathe easy for now.

I'm one of those who feel that there is an edge. And ours is among other universes. Until something better comes along I will feel that way. But someone here got me to thinking of the possibility of universes within universes. The observable edge of our universe is roughly 14 billion light years. Our galaxy does indeed have an edge and is estimated at about 100,000 light years across. (Other answerers please correct me if I'm wrong.)

I'm not sure if I truly believe its endless because they have PROVEN that this so-called infinite universe is expanding....now, how can something that doesn't have boundaries and goes on forever and forever....get bigger? Good question, my friend, good question.
