The symptoms you describe suggest that it could be gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It's important that you arrange for an oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGDS) with your doctor. Basically it's a scope to look into your oesophagus and stomach. Samples of the ulcer can be taken (biopsied) to rule out cancer. Also, testing for Helicobacter pylori (a bacteria) infection can be done as this bacterial infection is well-known to cause stomach ulcers.

Conservative treatment of benign stomach ulcers and/or GERD include taking smaller meals, avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, stop smoking and maintaining an upright posture during and after eating.

Medical treatment includes the use of antacids, histamine-2 receptor (H2) antagonist and proton-pump inhibitors (PPI). PPIs are very popular and effective. A triple therapy of 2 types of antibiotics and a PPI for 2 weeks is effective in getting rid of H.pylori infection.

If all else fails, surgery can be done.

Hope this helps :)

Eat three small meals and three snacks evenly spaced throughout the day. It is important to avoid periods of hunger or overeating.
Eat slowly and chew foods well.
Be relaxed at mealtime.
Sit up while eating and for 1 hour afterward.
Avoid eating within 3 hours before bedtime. Bedtime snacks can cause gastric acid secretion during the night.
Cut down on caffeine-containing foods and beverages, citrus and tomato products, and chocolate if these foods cause discomfort.
Include a good source of protein (milk, meat, egg, cheese, etc.) at each meal and snack.
Antacids should be taken in the prescribed dose, One-hour and 3 hours after meals and prior to bedtime. This regimen is most likely to keep the acidity of the stomach at the most stable and lowest level.
Milk and cream feedings should not be used as antacid therapy. Although milk protein has an initial neutralizing effect on gastric acid, it is also a very potent stimulator. Hourly feedings of milk have been shown to produce a lower pH than three regular meals.
Caffeine-containing beverages (coffee, tea, and cola drinks) and decaffeinated coffee cause increased gastric acid production but may be taken in moderation at or near mealtime, if tolerated.

You need to do an gastroscopy to see how is the ulcers. Is it bad or just shallow. From what you have said, you may most probably have a ulcerative ulcers. You doctor may need to take a small specimen to rule out any helicobacter pyroli. This is also another cause of gastric ulcer. However you need to seek your doctor for further advice and treatment.

Peptic ulcers are erosions or open sores in the mucous lining of the stomach or duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). The term “peptic” distinguishes peptic ulcers from ulcerations that affect other parts of the body (e.g., diabetic leg ulcers).

Peptic ulcer should never be treated without proper diagnosis. They are usually caused by infection from Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). People with peptic ulcer due to infection should discuss conventional treatment directed toward eradicating the organism—various combinations of antibiotics, acid blockers, and bismuth—with a medical doctor. Ulcers can also be caused or aggravated by stress, alcohol, smoking, and dietary factors.

Aloe Vera juice. buy it at your local health food store, and keep it in your fridge. Tastes awful, but there is noing more soothing than that. Of course, you need to lower your stress level so your stomach wont produce as much acid in the first place.

Also, stop chewing gum if you do so. Chewing prepares the stomach for digestion and it starts to produce acid.

First be treated for the pylorus bug. when you eat and you get that, drink 2 tablespoons cider vinegar....plug your nose. Cut back on eating !!!!!! eat smaller ampunts more often, watch how much you eat, and not fast foods or in front of the tv where you can eat two hours before you know what happened and keep watch because if your lower esophagus turns to stomach cells....you'll be at risk for esophageal cancer. I personally take mylanta because it works really fast, and never eat pepperoni, and no tuna from the can b4 u lay down

Here are some natural "cures" that work great: 1) Manuka honey 2) DGL ( a form of licorice that will not raise blood pressure ) 3) zinc-carnosine 4) Probiotics 5) Stop eating all the junk! Wheat and Dairy products, included. (and yes, I know that will require removing the source of 60% of the calories in the average american diet...try it for 4 days, and see how great you feel)>
