I mean, why in the first place, there're man and woman, male and female. Why not just 1 gender (for human being and other species), each person can love any other.

Why 2 and not 1 and not 3 or any other number of genders?

OK since some people didn't understand clearly my answer, I'll try to clarify it:
- Why number 2?

You said 1 is boring, but why 2 is not?
And it's not gender makes the world boring, it's individual. Think about if you just have 1 gender, but very different people, it still make the world colourful enough. Imagine Mz (not Mr or Ms) A marries to Mz B, then they have a child named Mz C (who gives birth? it's random, can be Mz A or Mz B).

Again, my question is why not 1, 3, 4 or any other number than 2. It's not a good answer if you only try to explain/give history about male and female.

Linguistically, there are 3 genders: masculine, feminine and neutral (i.e. He, She and It).

Biologically, some species only have 1 gender - they either reproduce asexually or are hermaphrodites with both male and female sex organs.

You have answered your own question but you seem not to have any idea what gender means. Male and female is two genders. Nature makes many living things two sexes as a method of evolution. One gender that can reproduce its self is no more than a clone and therefore would be nearly identical for a long period of time. By having two genders the male and female there is a mix of two slightly different members of the same group. This allows for much faster evolution and progress in development to cope with changing conditions of life. It strengthens the species along the way. Gender is male and female.

just one would mean everyone would be hermaphrodite, boring!! Three would cause all sorts of confusion, and arguments about voting rights etc. , again boring. No, two is just right.

Thanks to the miracle of modern science, you can now choose to be any number of genders you like... Or none at all. Hermaphrodite, transsexual, man, woman, manwoman... There's 5 right there! :)
