..colleague who behaves like an ignorant spoilt brat.

I would "assume" a 24-year old man {irrespective the background & nationality} would be intelligent enough instead of being condescending to women.

Is this a trait amongst Middle-Eastern men, or simply an egoistical stance men have on women?

Most cultures in the Middle East are somewhat sexist (go to http://www.irfi.org/articles/articles_401_450/women_in_the_middle_east.htm if you'd like to know more), but then again, this is a man-dominated world these days, so it's nothing too new.

Both. And No, he has not learned to not be condescending, men lots older have not learned, either. Question, is this guy your boss, or does he have the same job you have? If it's the boss, it's decision time. How well do you like this job? And can I put up with this? If you speak up, and even nicely and privately tell him about his attitude problem, you risk your job. A co-worker can be made to stop. If you tell him to stop it, others will too. {Just knowing that he has some psychological shortcoming that he needs to be superior to someone should help you cope with it. }LOL. That commercial that people have megaphones and are shouting the reason that they bought a luxury/sports car says it all.
Calmly, tell 1940's man that while you respect his work, you find his attitude difficult to work with, you feel it is hindering his ability to work with other people and advance in the company. Do not take his problem on yourself. Don't say "I am having a problem with you", And ask yourself before you deal with him, is he just taking the attitude of his bosses? If so, you got a problem. Hope this helped.

No not all young men are like this, but some guys that are raised to not respect their own Mothers, and females in general really don't know any better and lets face it men do not mature at the rate of women, so a 24 year old man is uh let see about 10 so what do you expect?

I must assume that it is a trait of men of that area considering that many of the countries there view women in a different light than other countries.....denied education, voting rights, property rights restrictions, etc.

Here in the USA we are not fully "up to speed" as we should be in views/treatment of women, however we at least do have lesislation in place giving the the legal right to equal treatment and are making inroads to total equality.

Please do not judge all of us predjucially, as there are some, if not a great many, who revere women and admire them for their abilities and qualities that we as men lack. I personally view the female sex as different but none the less equal....much like different sides of a coin!

Treat him like an adult and talk to him like an adult. Speak your mind; tell the person that they are a spoiled ignorant brat, let this jerk know that if he wants to speak down to women he should move back to his country, if he does not want to then tell him to get his act together because that is not how we do things here in America and remind him of that, this is America and here in America you adopt to how things are done here. Again tell him if he does not like it to go back home to where he came from.

It seems that many men, middle eastern or not, have never learned to respect women as people.

First - tape him to a chair
Second - tell him what you think of him
Third - rip the tape off of his hairy arms

they are born with ego, nothing we (women) can do to curb it. its just a matter of how good they are in controlling it. i think its one of women's obligations to train them to pay more respects towards women. in this case, i think moms and girlfriends play an important role :)
