It's one of the most fantastic laid backplaces I have ever been to and would highly recommend it to anyone. There are loads of places to visit - coffeeshops, nightclubs, museums, Anne Frank House, Sex museum - very funny, redlight district, canal boat trips, shopping, flower markets etc. You should definately go it's brill. Just be aware of all the usual pitfalls when you visit a big city and you will be fine. Go and you will have the time of your life. Wish I was coming with you!

Amsterdam is beautiful and friendly. No bananabar or casa rossa for me, I would say
- The Van Gogh museum
- Canal trip
- Just walking around the canals esp the Herengracht and Brouwersgracht
- Visit cafe's like De Jaren (http://www.diningcity.com/ams/dejaren/index.htm)
- the Leidseplein and surroundings
- by nice weather The Vondelpark!

I traveled to Amsterdam, and the Mary J is great and legal, too! You'll stay stoned for weeks, trust me!

depends how long you are going for but if you want to do as the locals do go to one of the new and popular artificial beaches in Amsterdam (blijburg aan zee, Strand West, Amsterdam Plage, Strand Zuid or Nemo) to enjoy the sun and relax.

You can visit Van Gogh museum and i think is one of the most beautiful city in Europe,you feel free in this city,you can do what you want to do without restrictions

Try and avoid having your luggage/handbags/wallets/purses pinched by druggies on the look out for easy prey. Also go visit the red light district.. you know you want to!

The Banana Bar... I heard legendary stories of it before I went, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Also the Grasshopper Bar.

Absolutely amazing, I have been there twice and I love the chilled out vibe of the place.
Use www.hostelbookers.com to book accommodation, they have clean private rooms.
