I know nothing whatever of Marco van Basten, but I will point out that not every reference to skin color is, all by itself, racism. Also, it's at least a little silly, since most Dutchmen are white.

Compared to previous Netherlands football team where there were a considerable presence of non-white players, this 2006 national squad is nearly all white. I am sure Marco van Basten picked players on merit and form rather than colour of skin but i do not follow the performance of Dutch domestic players closely to make a credible assessment. Edgar Davies, Seedorf and his generation seemed 'too old' this time around. No i don't see the racist bit in Van Basten's selection... and the only Flying Dutchman is Arjen Robben... Holland won't make the semis.

Back in the day, Marco Van Basten's team mates included Ruud Gullit who I believe is of Caribbean origin (i think) and Frank Rijkaard, and together, they played some of the best football for the Dutch team. Also they played for the amazing, amazing AC Milan of the 90's..... and killed the rest of the clubs in the Serie A... It's just coincidence that the Dutch don't have any black players this time around....
